John M. Richardson studied medicine in Lincoln County N.C., in the 1850s. The collection includes the diary of John M. Richardson, 1853-1854, kept while he studied medicine in Lincoln County, N.C., with his uncle, describing his studies, neighborhood events, and recreation; copies of a weekly home-made magazine, 1871-1873, produced and circulated by a family (perhaps the Wilkes family) in High Shoals, Gaston County, N.C., to amuse themselves while enduring financial reverses during Reconstruction, containing essays, stories, and poems by prominent persons in the area; and other items.
